After joining the People’s Climate March on Sunday September 21 along with other celebrities and Natives (raising awareness on Alberta oil sands), Leonardo DiCaprio threw a bright speech yesterday at the U.N. Climate Change Summit in his new role as U.N. Messenger of Peace.
I greatly appreciated his speech as he points out that climate change is our “single greatest security threat”, that “solving this crisis is not a question of politics, but a question of our own survival”.
Also as humans, “we should have the right to clean air and a livable environment”, as he solemnly maintains.
Leonardo DiCaprio is known to be an environmentalist activist. He created his own NGO in 1998, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, dedicated to “protecting wild places and implementing solutions that create a harmonious relationship between humanity and the natural world”. He is also fiercely committed to the protection of our oceans and seas as he frequently donates to Ocean Conservations (last month, he donated no less than $7 Million!)
He tweets or posts numerous calls for action, to people or leaders.
“Solving the #climate crisis is not a question of politics. It is our moral obligation for the #100percent: http://momentforaction.org ”
