the story of stuff

Hello there! (^^)/

Have you ever wondered how our daily products are made, and what are they made of? Or what is their impact on our life and our environment?

Well let me tell you about this great web series project (and non-profit organization) called The Story of Stuff, founded by Annie Leonard in 2008, made for the following purpose: raise awareness about the production of stuff we use everyday and the consequences of it on our health, our society and our environment through 20 minutes-animated movies.

The project is all about “Stuff we buy, maintain, lose, break, replace, stress about, and with which we confuse our personal self-worth”, as Leonard says.

We create short, easily shareable online movies that explore some of the key features of our relationship with Stuff—including how we can make things better; we provide high quality educational resources and programs to everyone from teachers and people of faith to business and community leaders; and we support the learning and action of the over 375,000 members of the Story of Stuff community.

Today, with over 15 million views and counting, The Story of Stuff is one of the most watched environmental-themed online movies of all time.

The videos not only show us the reality behind these products, but also ways to get involved, or new perspectives in our modern lifestyle.

Annie Leonard also published a Story of Stuff book subtitled How our obsession with stuff is trashing the planet, our communities, and our health – and a vision for change. You can read a well-written review about it and also find interesting resources here.

Watch the first movie here. Enjoy! 🙂
